Biju Cherian

Biju Cherian, PE, SMIEEE is a veteran electrical engineering leader and Project Manager at the North Texas Municipal Water District, bringing over 36 years of global experience spanning three continents and three distinct industrial frameworks. His career is a definitive blueprint for navigating unexpected professional detours and structural pivots—evolving from early engineering roots in India (1990–1995) to building a 25-year legacy as a Senior Director in the fast-paced private consulting and design-and-build markets of Dubai, before pivoting again in 2020 to lead critical public-sector infrastructure projects in the United States.

Throughout these geographic and operational transitions, Biju has demonstrated how core technical excellence and leadership principles transcend borders and sectors. He has spent 13 years in contracting, 18 years in consultancy design leading engineering teams of up to 160 professionals, and his current tenure in public-sector utility management. Alongside his professional pivots, Biju has maintained a deeply rooted, lifelong commitment to the engineering community. A Senior Member of IEEE and a March 2025 Life Member Inductee of the IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu honor society, he actively shapes the industry’s future as the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Region 5 Representative and Chair of the IEEE Dallas Section Industrial Engagement Committee. Biju offers students a candid, invaluable perspective on embracing global mobility, thriving through systemic industry changes, and turning unexpected corporate shifts into powerful pathways for leadership success.
